Vlog 44 – Last Vlog In Great Lakes IL

It’s been way too long since I’ve done an actual vlog, so I decided to bust one out while I was doing laundry on Sunday.

As you may have noticed, I got new glasses last week. I didn’t like them initially because I thought they made me look like I had bug-eyes or something, but I’m warming up to them.

The big thing that happened last week was that I got my orders!! I’ll be flying over to Point Loma in San Diego on the 23rd of November! I can’t wait!

Although I had some hiccups in the beginning (hardware is a totally different animal than software), things are looking good for me school-wise. As of today, I have 6.4 days worth of school left according to my progress report.

I just can’t wait to go to San Diego! Not to take anything away from TSC; I’m just looking forward to progressing in my Navy career!

With a lot of the guys from my boot camp division graduating their respective schools and getting orders for their next command, it just blows my mind to think that two months ago, we got on a bus at RTC in our dress whites and braved the 5 minute trip here. Then again, some days it feels like I’ve been here forever. I’ve learned that time passes really weird when you’re in the Navy; it’s hard to explain unless you’ve actually lived the lifestyle.

When I talked to my friends in the Navy about A-school before I went to boot camp, they said that it was a lot like college. After being here for over two months, I think it’s safe to say that they’re right for the most part. If you’ve lived in a dorm room setting or had roommates, let’s just say that you’ll be in pretty familiar territory.

Of course, going to school in the Navy isn’t exactly like going to any ol’ college! You have to wear & maintain a uniform (and you get different kinds of uniforms to match virtually any occasion), you do daily musters (head counts), you have duty days where you clean the ship and/or stand watches, you have to work in order to earn the right to go on liberty and what you can do when you’re on liberty (aka the three phases of liberty), and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

In other news, at the beginning of December, I’ll be able to take out a starter loan from my bank in order to boost my credit by rebuilding my credit history. I’ll be using the money to buy myself a nice guitar for my birthday, most likely a Dean ML in a blueburst finish with a fixed bridge. I’m not much of a whammy-bar guy, so I’m totally cool without one.

If I have some money left over, I’ll try to buy an amp. I’m bouncing between a Peavey Vypyr and a Jet City amp.

At the risk of sounding uber-cheesy and brown-nosey, I’d just like to thank you guys for sticking with me this whole time, even if I don’t update as much as I used to (especially on YouTube).

At the end of the day when I finish uploading a video and get to see all the comments and messages in my inbox from YouTube and Twitter and my own website, it’s a good feeling to know that people are watching and enjoying what I’m putting out there.

Well, I’m off to work on my schoolwork and get one step closer to San Diego. Later!!

On Thursday, I met with an attorney to officially drop the domestic violence charges that I filed against Jon when he threatened me and the family indirectly by saying “In my perfect world, you and everyone here is dead.” Since that time, his behavior has improved dramtically. However, he doesn’t really do much these days aside from work and coming out of his room to eat. It’s really depressing watching him in that state, but I hope he cheers up once he gets into a good college, which is another reason I dropped all charges. After he pays off the court costs, he’ll be able to start college as early as January 2010. I also wish him the best, as I always have, in his studies!

I spent the majority of Sunday just chillin’ to some excellent music and getting caught up on my YouTube subscriptions.

I also watched Jason of the MyArgonauts, TaishaJason, and JasonsInJapan channels from YouTube on BlogTV. He’s a real nice guy and we talked for a bit. I asked him several questions about Japan like is it okay for me to mention that I was born on Pearl Harbor Day, which is when Japan bombed an American naval base in Hawaii and forced us to get involved with World War II, as well as if he’s seen Marty Friedman on Japanese TV. He didn’t initially know who I was talking about, but then he remembered and said he did see Marty a couple times on TV.

Monday was to me Sunday Part 2. I edited a Lost Vlog that was originally supposed to be Vlog 16, but I rerecorded it because the lighting was bad. Wow, I wrote three posts on Tuesday!!! I don’t normally do that, but I guess I was in a writing frenzy that day, haha!! Shortly after I did my post about KCB International, I found another school called KCP International. It’s basically the same thing, but it actually lists the costs of attending where KCB doesn’t. I’ll be looking into that as well.

To be honest, I don’t like the quality of Vlog 22 so I’ll be reediting it so I sound significantly less like a drowning T-Pain on a coke binge and more like me drowning on a coke binge. Look forward to that!

Twitter Thursday Throwdown: September 3, 2009 – September 9, 2009

I was looking over several different posts for this week’s Deja Vuesday, and I came across two of them that I want to go over. Since I couldn’t choose one over the other, I decided to do both!

Post #1: I Can Finally Facebook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first post I’m gonna go over is a quickie from 2006 when I Could Finally Facebook:

This is an important day in the life of Andy-San’s Xanga. 147 days ago, I arrived at Xanga and was addicted to it. My reason to come to Xanga? Because I couldn’t Facebook! It’s been my subtitle for 147 days straight, but no longer. For you see, I CAN NOW FACEBOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m not gonna leave Xanga because of it, no, far from it! I can simply stream my Xanga blogs to my Facebook and kill two birds with one stone. And on that note…uhh, I dunno.

Besides the grate news of my debut into Facebook, today was alright. I fixed the image timing of my two new YTMNDs so be sure to check them out. Work was hellish today. The tables were a disaster and we had tons of people even after we closed the grill. I’m beginning to get the hang of it so things are looking up.

For those of you who are either new to Facebook or simply forgot, in the beginning, you could only sign up to Facebook after they verified that you are a college student, usually through sending an account activation email to your school email address.

I can’t believe that it’s been over three years since I signed up to Facebook!!! I remember first hearing about it from Eriopolis when he went to UU in 2005 and because ITT Tech wasn’t listed as a verified institute of higher learning, I couldn’t Facebook until I came to UU in the fall of 2006.

Post #2: Guitar Has Leveled Up! You Get: Ibanez Tube Screamer TS-7

The second post I wanna go over is from 2007 when my Guitar Leveled Up & I Got An Ibanez Tube Screamer TS-7:

Sup it be the Andy-San here kickin’ it on my only day off this week.

I got up around 11 this morning, which felt great to sleep in finally after a grueling straight week of work. I really hope that I get more than 1 day a week off, although I don’t want to lose too many hours. I’d also like to work nights again because I’m not much of a morning person, but they’re shorthanded as it is and there’s not many workers there that are out of school so I’ll stick the course for now (but I really miss sleeping in ).

Yeah, that’s one thing I don’t miss about being employed. Since moving back to Celina, I’ve been sending in my applications and resumes so I can get a job and move out on my own again. I appreciate that my parents took me in when I got kicked out of my apartment in Bowling Green, but I don’t want to stick around for too much longer.

In other news, I bought a new pedal for my guitar. It’s an Ibanez Tube Screamer TS-7 and it’s killer! I was looking for an overdrive pedal that wasn’t METAL ALL THE TIME!!!1 like my DigiTech Metal Master pedal. I took a bike ride up to Wal-Mart, piddled around, and went to the music store. Originally, I wasn’t gonna buy anything; I was gonna do the usual “look around for an interesting guitar, amp, or pedal and then leave.” I saw the overdrive pedal out of the corner of my eye and couldn’t believe it was an actual Ibanez Tube Screamer. Granted, it’s not the original green pedal, but for only $25, it’s the best damn pedal I’ve bought yet!

Now if only Boss and especially Digitech could learn a lesson from Ibanez and not sell their pedals at prices well beyond the $50 mark, which I think is the median for effect pedals; you should sell the single effect pedals for under $50 (unless it’s a signature pedal, but keep it under $70) and the higher-end multi-effect pedals for over $50 but no more than $300 (unless it has an ungodly amount of effects and/or is a signature pedal). Please guys, lower the prices. When we have to save up to buy a pedal, you know you’re overpricing them. We should always have enough money to buy at least a single effect pedal.

Anyway, back to the Tube Screamer. This thing is awesome! It has the sweet rock tone I’ve been looking for, and I can play any style of music short of metal (I can coax some happening classic metal tones out of it ala Scorpions and some nice Jimmy Page and Angus Young-esque tones). It has 2 modes: TS9 and Hot. TS9, I’m assuming, is more of the original Tube Screamer sound. The Hot mode is like the TS9 mode but with MoAr GaIn!! I use the Hot mode mostly because it’s louder and with my chorus pedal, I can get a pretty happening sound. I took a page out of Alex Lifeson’s (Rush) and Zakk Wylde’s book and I have the chorus on all the time. It makes my cleans sound terrific and adds character to my distortions.

After the honeymoon period had passed, I find that I don’t use the Tube Screamer that much because it doesn’t interact with my amp that well because my amp sounds like a piece of doggy doo. I’m sure that it would sound better with a higher quality amp, as made evident by the veritable cavalcade of records using the legendary pedal.

Since writing that post in 2007, the prices of pedals have since gone up, but so has the quality so it’s not all bad. Also, modeling technology has improved, as made evident by the Peavey Vypyr series.

Yeah, I’ve been biking a lot lately. On the way to Wal-Mart today, I got caught in the rain which sucked but at least I didn’t have to deal with it on the way back. Another thing that’s been bothering me is that I don’t have a place to put stuff if I buy something. I just hold onto it and it’s killing my wrist to do that and steer the bike at the same time. I guess I need a small backpack or something for when I go out on bike rides and buy st00f.

I wish I would bike more often, but the allergy count has been crazy-high! Fortunately, it’s gonna rain all this week so the allergy count should drop by week’s end.

And in this completely random paragraph, I think Ben’s here this weekend, but he’s working so there goes another opportune jam time. I watched Wild Hogs and it’s damn funny, although the beginning was a bit confusing at first. I just got Zombie Loan as well as the Alien Nine DVD. I haven’t seen Zombie Loan yet and Alien Nine looks okay. Did I mention that I want a Dean From Hell really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really bad? Ok, that’s enough of that.

Keeping with the random paragraph format, I recently got caught up with Season 2 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I hear they finally broke free of the Endless Eight arc! I also downloaded GA – Geijutsuka Art Design Class, which is about a kooky art class that I’m assuming is more of a club than a class, and Taishou Yakyuu Musume, which is about a group of girls from the 1920′s playing baseball. I watched a bit of Meet The Spartans yesterday and a little bit of Dude, Where’s My Car in Spanish. If you thought the movie was messed up before, watch it in Spanish and open yourself up to a whole new realm of weird! I’m listening to Kid ‘N Play right now and am lovin’ it! There’s just no substitute for good old-school rap and hip-hop! O-la-O-la-Aaay!

This vlog was originally suppose to be Vlog 16, but I decided to rerecord it because the room was too dark. Thankfully, I didn’t delete it because I talk about some cool stuff

In this video, I talk about my new goal board, different guitars that I want, and I show you some of the changes that I did to the apartment since my tour video.

At this point, I haven’t yet propped up my mini-fridge with two pieces of wood. They were originally shelves that I got from an entertainment center that was being thrown away nearby.

On my goal boards, I have the following goals/intentions:

“I deliver $1,337 worth of value to others and am rewarded accordingly.”

“I am grateful for owning a Peavey Vypyr 75.”

“I am in a relationship with a beautiful woman.”

“I am the proud owner of a Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 24 in Whale Blue.”

“I am the frontman for my band Chrome Sparks as the lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist with *blank* on lead guitar/backup vocals/screams, *blank* on drums, and *blankitty-blank* on bass/backup vocals”

At the time, I was saving up for a PRS SE Custom 24 in Whale Blue and had around $60. Before I had to suddenly move back with my folks, I had amassed $134.02 total. Keep in mind that I got all this strictly from tips and all of the change in my wallet left over at the end of the day as well as some change found lying around. However, I did keep eight quarters (that’s $2 for my international audience) in my wallet just in case.

Besides the PRS, I want to own The Dean From Hell, a Jackson Kelly, a Jackson Kelly Star (think of a Kelly fusing with a Randy Rhoads asymmetrical V), and a Carvin V220 (which is quite the unique instrument indeed).

The Jackson Kelly and the Carvin V220 were both used by Marty Friedman when he was in Megadeth and Cacophony respectively. I tried unsuccessfully to get his signature Ibanez SZ model, of which there are two versions: one in blue with two humbuckers and another in red with a single humbucker and a killswitch instead of a volume knob. Do I really have to say which one I wanted? *it’s the blue one*

I have already recorded a video showing how to play Chrome Sparks’ Riff Idea #3, but I still need to edit it first because it’s a bit long as it is, around 14 minutes and 14 seconds long to be exact. Unfortunatly, I had to take some money out of the PRS savings in order to pay off the rent among other things. Don’t worry though, because I’ll replace all the money tomorrow when I get paid.

I’ve been browsing around eBay for other cool guitars besides the PRS SE Custom 24, and I’ve found several. Some other set-neck guitars that I’m looking into buying are the Epiphone Wilshire white reissue (not the $4,500 one), a regular Dean ML, Dean From Hell, Dean FBD, Dean Razorback, and a PRS SE Custom 22 in cherryburst. I was pretty darn close to getting an Epiphone Les Paul too, but I got quickly overbid.

If anyone out there doubts the global economy for even a second, I challenge you to go on eBay and buy a normally top-dollar guitar (we’re talking at least $1,000) like a Gibson or PRS in good condition for a riduculously low-ball price like $100. It ain’t gonna happen!

I’ve have the Sleep Master for nearly a week now, and I gotta say, it’s not quite as good as I thought it was gonna be. The mask tends to slip off a lot if it’s not firmly, and I mean crush-your-eyeballs firmly, strapped on.

Another thing to note, and it’s not really the mask’s fault, but ever since the first full night’s sleep, I noticed that the side of the mask that touches my face is beginning to turn black. I didn’t realize that I sweated so much at night, and I’m sure glad that the mask is washable.

Because the mask also covers the ears with all the strength of a high school girl wrenching open a new bottle of vodka, when I had earplugs on along with the mask, my jaws hurt when I woke up so be aware of that.

A funny thing happened on Twitter yesterday. When I went to put up the link to the V-Hudge naked pics, I got a response on Twitter from this service called NSFW4ME that told me about their services. What they are, in a nutshell, are a URL shortening service that also puts up a warning when you click on the link that this might not be safe for work. You guys should totally check them out here!

Twitter Thursday Throwdown: July 30 – August 5, 2009

I really want to cap this year off doing something great! I thought about donating some of my old toys and stuff to charity, but these days, even kids in B.F.E. have at least a 4G iPod along with some Hannah Montana and Rock Band. I’m sure some kids would enjoy playing with my old toys, but I feel like I need to really do something to get me out of karma debt.

Doing Good Things For Others: A Personal Backstory

-When I was in college, I’d almost always rush forward and open the door for others. Nowadays, I notice that I slow down so that other people open the door for me.

-I never donated anything except for my old clothes to our local Goodwill clones.

-Whenever I would go to the BMV, I have never donated $1 to help blind kids.

-I was taught to tresure what I have. On one hand, my things last longer because I take good care of them. On the other hand, I was inadvertedly taught not to share. Whether it was my toys or my feelings, I usually kept them to myself and felt very uncomfortable when someone else had them.

Building Back My Karma, One Good Idea At A Time

I don’t want to end up like my parents. They have to work themselves to the bone in order to just get by. I know that if I really want to succeed, I need to be surrounded by like-minded and supportive peers. Despite going into a depression because I felt unable to control my life, I was beginning to do some good things for others in college.

For one, I helped start the campus’ first anime club, Genshiken UU. Although my best friend Eriopolis did everything in getting the club off the ground, I feel that I contributed a decent amount to the club as well. I designed the logo that’s still in use today. Although it may sound presumptuous for me to say this, but I think that I helped kickstart the idea of an anime club.

I showed Eriopolis the anime Genshiken, which is about an anime club of the same name and their various hijinx. I definitely recommend watching it if you’re into the slice-of-life genre or are really into anime. The casual fan might not be able to connect with it as much as a diehard anime lover.

After watching the series, I said to Eriopolis, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we did that? It would be so awesome to start an anime club on campus!” He said that he was thinking about doing it before, but I feel that watching Genshiken helped pull the trigger and made the idea a reality.

As I said before, I want to do something really good this year, but I need your help.
