It’s been way too long since I’ve done an actual vlog, so I decided to bust one out while I was doing laundry on Sunday.

As you may have noticed, I got new glasses last week. I didn’t like them initially because I thought they made me look like I had bug-eyes or something, but I’m warming up to them.

The big thing that happened last week was that I got my orders!! I’ll be flying over to Point Loma in San Diego on the 23rd of November! I can’t wait!

Although I had some hiccups in the beginning (hardware is a totally different animal than software), things are looking good for me school-wise. As of today, I have 6.4 days worth of school left according to my progress report.

I just can’t wait to go to San Diego! Not to take anything away from TSC; I’m just looking forward to progressing in my Navy career!

With a lot of the guys from my boot camp division graduating their respective schools and getting orders for their next command, it just blows my mind to think that two months ago, we got on a bus at RTC in our dress whites and braved the 5 minute trip here. Then again, some days it feels like I’ve been here forever. I’ve learned that time passes really weird when you’re in the Navy; it’s hard to explain unless you’ve actually lived the lifestyle.

When I talked to my friends in the Navy about A-school before I went to boot camp, they said that it was a lot like college. After being here for over two months, I think it’s safe to say that they’re right for the most part. If you’ve lived in a dorm room setting or had roommates, let’s just say that you’ll be in pretty familiar territory.

Of course, going to school in the Navy isn’t exactly like going to any ol’ college! You have to wear & maintain a uniform (and you get different kinds of uniforms to match virtually any occasion), you do daily musters (head counts), you have duty days where you clean the ship and/or stand watches, you have to work in order to earn the right to go on liberty and what you can do when you’re on liberty (aka the three phases of liberty), and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

In other news, at the beginning of December, I’ll be able to take out a starter loan from my bank in order to boost my credit by rebuilding my credit history. I’ll be using the money to buy myself a nice guitar for my birthday, most likely a Dean ML in a blueburst finish with a fixed bridge. I’m not much of a whammy-bar guy, so I’m totally cool without one.

If I have some money left over, I’ll try to buy an amp. I’m bouncing between a Peavey Vypyr and a Jet City amp.

At the risk of sounding uber-cheesy and brown-nosey, I’d just like to thank you guys for sticking with me this whole time, even if I don’t update as much as I used to (especially on YouTube).

At the end of the day when I finish uploading a video and get to see all the comments and messages in my inbox from YouTube and Twitter and my own website, it’s a good feeling to know that people are watching and enjoying what I’m putting out there.

Well, I’m off to work on my schoolwork and get one step closer to San Diego. Later!!

On Thursday, I met with an attorney to officially drop the domestic violence charges that I filed against Jon when he threatened me and the family indirectly by saying “In my perfect world, you and everyone here is dead.” Since that time, his behavior has improved dramtically. However, he doesn’t really do much these days aside from work and coming out of his room to eat. It’s really depressing watching him in that state, but I hope he cheers up once he gets into a good college, which is another reason I dropped all charges. After he pays off the court costs, he’ll be able to start college as early as January 2010. I also wish him the best, as I always have, in his studies!

I spent the majority of Sunday just chillin’ to some excellent music and getting caught up on my YouTube subscriptions.

I also watched Jason of the MyArgonauts, TaishaJason, and JasonsInJapan channels from YouTube on BlogTV. He’s a real nice guy and we talked for a bit. I asked him several questions about Japan like is it okay for me to mention that I was born on Pearl Harbor Day, which is when Japan bombed an American naval base in Hawaii and forced us to get involved with World War II, as well as if he’s seen Marty Friedman on Japanese TV. He didn’t initially know who I was talking about, but then he remembered and said he did see Marty a couple times on TV.

Monday was to me Sunday Part 2. I edited a Lost Vlog that was originally supposed to be Vlog 16, but I rerecorded it because the lighting was bad. Wow, I wrote three posts on Tuesday!!! I don’t normally do that, but I guess I was in a writing frenzy that day, haha!! Besides that, lots of stuff still happened that day: I got my 100th subscriber on YouTube, I decided to do something with my second YouTube channel by adding all of my videos to it in the order that I originally uploaded them and talk about how they relate to me today, and called in for a request to play Carcass’ Heartwork on Infinite Metal that wasn’t played because they ran out of time. Shortly after I did my post about KCB International, I found another school called KCP International. It’s basically the same thing, but it actually lists the costs of attending where KCB doesn’t. I’ll be looking into that as well.

To be honest, I don’t like the quality of Vlog 22 so I’ll be reediting it so I sound significantly less like a drowning T-Pain on a coke binge and more like me drowning on a coke binge. Look forward to that!

Twitter Thursday Throwdown: September 3, 2009 – September 9, 2009

This vlog was originally suppose to be Vlog 16, but I decided to rerecord it because the room was too dark. Thankfully, I didn’t delete it because I talk about some cool stuff

In this video, I talk about my new goal board, different guitars that I want, and I show you some of the changes that I did to the apartment since my tour video.

At this point, I haven’t yet propped up my mini-fridge with two pieces of wood. They were originally shelves that I got from an entertainment center that was being thrown away nearby.

On my goal boards, I have the following goals/intentions:

“I am in a relationship with a beautiful woman.”

At the time, I was saving up for a PRS SE Custom 24 in Whale Blue and had around $60. Before I had to suddenly move back with my folks, I had amassed $134.02 total. Keep in mind that I got all this strictly from tips and all of the change in my wallet left over at the end of the day as well as some change found lying around. However, I did keep eight quarters (that’s $2 for my international audience) in my wallet just in case.

Besides the PRS, I want to own The Dean From Hell, a Jackson Kelly, a Jackson Kelly Star (think of a Kelly fusing with a Randy Rhoads asymmetrical V), and a Carvin V220 (which is quite the unique instrument indeed).

The Jackson Kelly and the Carvin V220 were both used by Marty Friedman when he was in Megadeth and Cacophony respectively. I tried unsuccessfully to get his signature Ibanez SZ model, of which there are two versions: one in blue with two humbuckers and another in red with a single humbucker and a killswitch instead of a volume knob. Do I really have to say which one I wanted? *it’s the blue one*

I have already recorded a video showing how to play Chrome Sparks’ Riff Idea #3, but I still need to edit it first because it’s a bit long as it is, around 14 minutes and 14 seconds long to be exact. Lost Vlog 4 – Of Goal Boards & Guitars

Can it be? Has it been a whole year since I broke away from free blogging sites like Xanga and WordPress.com and went to my own domain?! Yes!

In many ways, it’s hard to believe that a year has passed this quickly. On the other hand, it also feels like an eternity since I’ve had my own domain.

I’m Finally Moving Out To Bowling Green!

Yes, you read that right! No more planning and pondering on how to get there, I’ve finally secured a sweet place and I move there on June 1st.

Let me give you a quick rundown of the amenities of the apartment complex where I’m moving to: outdoor pool, 24-hour hot tub, workout room, tanning beds, washer/dryer INSIDE the apartment, computer study room, 52″ TV, free internet and free shuttle to BGSU every ten minutes until 7 pm! Oh yeah, and I get my own bathroom!! It’s only $315 for June and July and then $284 for the rest of the year. Cable, electric, and gas are split evenly between roommates. I only have one roommate so far, a girl whom I didn’t meet at the apartment showing, but there’s room for two more people!

So how did I score such an awesome pad? Well, it all started off terribly. You see, back in February 2009, a certified letter came for my stepdad that I signed for. I don’t remember exactly what happened, but I’m guessing that after I signed it, I put it on the table with the rest of the mail. I didn’t think a thing of the letter until a couple weeks ago when my stepdad said that the house payment didn’t go through.

Apparently, what was in the certified letter was a bill/collection notice/notice to appear in court (I’m not sure which one it was) involving an old credit card that he says isn’t his. He didn’t get the letter and his house payment was taken by the credit card company. Because he wasn’t working for about three months, he fell behind on his house payments and was put on a special plan so that it wouldn’t affect anything. The plan says that he has to pay on time for six months, and July would have been his last month. So he was freaking out and saying that we’re gonna lose the house because I didn’t give him the letter back in February. He then said that I had until the first of June to find a new place to live.

At first, I was freaking out because I was gonna wait until August to move out and I didn’t have enough money to get my own apartment. Then, I calmed down and began to plan for how and where I was gonna live. Once I accepted the fact that I couldn’t live here anymore and after much browsing online, I found an ad on Craigslist looking for a roommate in a 4-bedroom apartment. I set up a time to meet and view the place the very next day.

I took Jon with me because he wanted to go to Guitar Center and I needed some Hobo Stab Insurance, hehe (it is Craigslist after all). I was worrying about pretty much everything when we arrived at BG. In actuality, the girl who showed me around was incredibly nice as was the whole apartment complex. As I mentioned before, I’ll be rooming with a different girl and two other roommates will be coming sometime before the fall semester starts (around August-September).

There Are Only Two Guitars Right Here!!

Unfortunatly, I had to sell three of my guitars last month in order to pay off a back cable bill that I owed. I sold off my Silvertone Apocalypse Special, Epiphone SG Junior (with a p-90, bitches!), and my Squier Stratocaster. How much did I get for them? Only $150 for all three of them. I wanted to put them on eBay, but my stepdad wanted the money now dammit! I could have sold only one guitar on eBay to cover the bill (and a little extra left over). Well, there’s not much I can do about it now I guess.

I do have higher-end replacements in mind for all three of them. I want to get a Gibson SG Classic (with two p-90s, bitches!!), a Fender Deluxe Player’s Strat in sapphire with a maple fretboard, and a Dean Splittail Floyd in white.

After Jon and I toured the apartment, we went to Guitar Center and had a field day! I tried out the SG Classic (the pickups were cursed with some wicked 60-cycle hum, but it sounded great otherwise), a Fender Deluxe Player’s Strat (awesome, awesome, awesome!), and a low-end Jackson Kelly (it was set up all wrong and I was disappointed in its tone, but it played okay regardless and felt good to play sitting down).

I got another chance to play on the super-special-awesome Peavey Vypyr amps and tried out all of the guitars on them only. My big gripe with the Vypyrs is that it’s hard to find a super-clean setting right out of the gate. Even though I was on the green channel, pretty much all of the “clean” channels had some gain to them, which works sometimes, but I had a hard time dialing down the gain to get a clean Metallica-esque tone. I’m sure that once I actually buy this amp and dink around with it, this won’t be a problem. However, if I was unsure about the Vypyr in the first place, this would be a big turn-off for me.

Oh yeah, and there seems to be delay that can’t be turned off in almost all of the amps settings. Since I like delay, I don’t mind so much, but sometimes there’s no need for delay and not being able to turn it off is quite the selling turn-off.

What do you guys think? Am I being too namby-panby about the unstoppable global delay as well as having to dial in a super-clean tone or should Peavey do something about it by turning off the global delay and making the super-clean tone readily available in one of the default amp settings?

My Goals For TheAndySan.com

First off, I’d like to be posting moAr! I haven’t been posting much at all since the year started, mostly due to not having Internet on a consistent basis. With free Internets at my new place, I’ll be able to post more often.

Second, I’d like to stick to the posting schedule that I mentioned awhile back. However, I want to revise it since I found that posting daily all the time has an adverse effect on my creativity and I end up not posting for a month or two, hehe. Maybe you guys’ll be able to finally get me to talk about anime and Japan for an entire post instead of my boring-ass life. Oh, I crack myself up sometimes, haha!! But seriously, an anime review here and there seems reasonable and is actually in the works.

Next, I want to better incorporate vlogging into this blog. Ever since I got my camera, I thought that I’d be vlogging all the time. However, I found that editing video can be a real time-consumer in comparison to just writing, not to mention my “knack” for creating monologues on the spot. Also, when I do a vlog, I don’t want to just slap up the embedded video and hit Publish. I want to type out the content of the vlog so that I get the higher expression benefits of video along with the search-engine and reader-friendly advantages of plain text.

Finally, I want to make more money and bring in more readers here. Judging from my past experience with monetization, setting a goal of $1,000 a month by the end of the year might be too much for me. Although I don’t want to squash my intention of earning $1,000+ a month from my blog by year’s end, I need to be somewhat realistic about this goal. Therefore, I’m going to be shooting for making a consistent $100 a month from this blog by the end of this year. Since I make roughly $25 a month right now, I only need to make $75 more a month. Looking Towards The “Green” Future

Since I won’t be able to bring all of my stuff to the apartment, I’ll be making a list this week of all the things that I’ll bring with me initially. After I get settled in, I’ll stop by and gradually pick things up. Also, once I get a job and can afford to put my stuff in storage, I’ll go ahead and do that. I can’t wait until June 1st!!

TheAndySan.com One Year Anniversary!!

I really want to cap this year off doing something great! I thought about donating some of my old toys and stuff to charity, but these days, even kids in B.F.E. have at least a 4G iPod along with some Hannah Montana and Rock Band. I’m sure some kids would enjoy playing with my old toys, but I feel like I need to really do something to get me out of karma debt.

Doing Good Things For Others: A Personal Backstory

-When I was in college, I’d almost always rush forward and open the door for others. Nowadays, I notice that I slow down so that other people open the door for me.

-I never donated anything except for my old clothes to our local Goodwill clones.

-Whenever I would go to the BMV, I have never donated $1 to help blind kids.

-I was taught to tresure what I have. On one hand, my things last longer because I take good care of them. On the other hand, I was inadvertedly taught not to share. Whether it was my toys or my feelings, I usually kept them to myself and felt very uncomfortable when someone else had them.

Building Back My Karma, One Good Idea At A Time

I don’t want to end up like my parents. They have to work themselves to the bone in order to just get by. I know that if I really want to succeed, I need to be surrounded by like-minded and supportive peers. Despite going into a depression because I felt unable to control my life, I was beginning to do some good things for others in college.

For one, I helped start the campus’ first anime club, Genshiken UU. Although my best friend Eriopolis did everything in getting the club off the ground, I feel that I contributed a decent amount to the club as well. I designed the logo that’s still in use today. Although it may sound presumptuous for me to say this, but I think that I helped kickstart the idea of an anime club.

I showed Eriopolis the anime Genshiken, which is about an anime club of the same name and their various hijinx. I definitely recommend watching it if you’re into the slice-of-life genre or are really into anime. The casual fan might not be able to connect with it as much as a diehard anime lover.

After watching the series, I said to Eriopolis, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we did that? It would be so awesome to start an anime club on campus!” He said that he was thinking about doing it before, but I feel that watching Genshiken helped pull the trigger and made the idea a reality.

Get To The Point Already!

As I said before, I want to do something really good this year, but I need your help. I put up an Amazon wishlist (which I’ll better organize later) and I want to donate at least half of the musical instruments, as voted by you, to Little Kids Rock. The list is a work-in-progress and I’ll be adding less expensive items to it so you don’t have to worry about not having enough money to buy an instrument. I Need Help Donating!

Impulsive Buying Leads To Giving

Today, I decided to do something impulsive: I bid on an Epiphone SG Junior P90 guitar with a hard shell case on eBay. She’s a real beaut.

The problem is that it may not have been the smartest thing to do financially speaking. Since I don’t have any large (as in $150 a week) sources of income at the moment, it’s bad for me in the long run. To recoup, I’ve put some of my other things on eBay like a spare NES system that I had, my Magic The Gathering blue/black faerie deck, Beavis & Butt-Head – The Mike Judge Collection: Vol. 1, and my old 15 GB iPod that my mom gave me a long time ago. How To Help Out This Holiday Season

As some of you may have noticed, I’ve added an Amazon Wish List to my sidebar. I thought that I’d get in the hoiday spirit a bit early and give my parents (and everyone else out there in Cyber Land) some ideas.
