Vlog 39 – I'm Nervous About Boot Camp, Video Status Report, & Goodbye Video Coming Soon

If you can’t see the video above, click here.

It’s been awhile since I did a vlog, so I decided to fill you guys in with what’s been going on lately.

Over the weekend, Eriopolis (aka The Talkin’ Vedalken) and I recorded a veritable shit-ton of videos for the First Impact Anime series as well as for Behind The Flop. A new episode from each series will be uploaded once a week, with First Impact Anime on Mondays and Behind The Flop on Tuesdays.

Now if you’re wondering how I’ll be able to do all this while I’m at boot camp, the short answer is that I can’t. Eriopolis will be handling all of the uploading while I’m away. I’m also going to be giving him his own account on my blog so that he can put the videos up there as well as his own series of articles on playing Magic: The Gathering (if he wants to put those articles up there, of course).

I’m really nervous about going to boot camp, which is just 13 days away! I’ve been talking with my friends who have already gone through boot camp, and they have had mixed experiences. One of them said that it was hell for the first three weeks, but then you got better at doing stuff so it became easier in-a-sense. Another said that boot camp was cake. Another one of my friends said that it was hard at first, but it got easier as you progressed.

I also got to see my friend Tylor, who recently graduated boot camp. If you guys remember from one of my earlier posts, Tylor was the one I roomed with on my last visit to MEPS several months ago. He lost A LOT of weight at boot camp; I’d say around 40-50 lbs, so he weighs about as much as I do now (which is crazy since he’s like 6’6″-6’7″)!!

A couple of days ago, I recorded a new video for the Life In… series that covered the Montezuma Airfield as well as downtown Montezuma. When I went home afterwards, I found that the video files weren’t on my memory card. Since the weather’s been pretty crappy these past couple of weeks, I don’t know if I’ll be able to get another Life In… video out before I leave for boot camp, but I’ll try my best!

Well, I’ve gotta go to my last DEP meeting here in a couple of minutes so I’ll see you guys later!

P.S: Before I go to boot camp, I’ll upload a goodbye video as a tribute to my audience and my channel to say thanks for watching my videos and reading my blog. Don’t worry, I won’t be gone for good; but I will be gone for several months and I want to make something to say thanks for sticking around and that I hope you continue to stick around when I come back.

Life In…05 – Coldwater Ohio

If you can’t see the video above, click here.

In this video, I show you around the village of Coldwater Ohio where we visit the Holy Trinity Catholic church, enjoy the newly blooming trees around the end of the bike path, look at the post office, the cemetery, the hospital, the new senior citizen center, and take a cruise downtown.

Feel free to leave me your comments for this video as well as suggestions for future videos. Also, be sure to read & subscribe to my blog (link’s always at the top of every video) as well as my YouTube channel to keep on the up-and-up with what I’m up to. Finally, be sure to subscribe to my best bud Eriopolis’ channel because he’s gonna be putting out some killer vids on Magic The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, and more!

Deja Vuesday Double Feature – 01/11/2005 & I’m Baaaaaaaaack!!!!1

Before we begin this week’s Deja Vuesday, I’d like to talk to you guys about something important.

After declaring a week or so ago that I was going on hiatus and then writing a bunch of sponsored posts, it might be safe to say that the hiatus is done. I don’t know for sure though as my online time is still limited, which makes scheduling posts (mainly video-based posts) very difficult. Also, I’m usually creatively drained come the beginning of the year so my posts tend to be sporadic and the quality varies.

I just want to say thanks to you guys for still sticking with me throughout all of this and I hope to be back to my regular posting schedule as soon as I can.

Now, without further ado, let’s begin this week’s Deja Vuesday! We’re gonna kick things off with a look back to five years ago when I first played Yu-Gi-Oh! Online:

Hey ya! I just changed the Whuzzupp theme to a much better Earthworm Jim 2 song and I updated the long-forgotten Linx section. I also want to congradulate Eric on his new laptop. Hopefully he’ll update more now.

Actually, Eriopolis recently built himself a killer new desktop! I haven’t seen it yet, but he says it’s got all kinds of awesome stuff in it like a quad-core processor and DDR3 RAM (I bet I’m gonna laugh at myself when I read this years from now)!

Well kids, I finally got my hands on the new Yu-Gi-Oh Online game and I gotta tell ya, it’s got potential. Imagine a Yu-Gi-Oh game that is never out of date; it has all the booster sets and promos, plus there’s a possibility that Upper Deck might release cards exclusive to Yu-Gi-Oh Online. You never know (wink, wink). However, there are drawbacks to the game. Actually, they’re more of double-edged swords than disadvantages. The game has a timer; you get 180 seconds to complete your turn and 30 seconds to decide whether or not to activate the effect of a card. If you run out of time for either situation, you automatically lose. This has actually helped me win a couple duels. On the whole (heh, heh), I like the timer because it eliminates the real scorge of the Yu-Gi-Oh game: the 1-hour turn-takers.

You know the type. The kind of people who just bought a Starter Deck and who can’t decide between wearing black or white socks. Or the kind who used to or still does play Magic or D&D or a similar game, and they’re used to taking forever to finish, and they take ages to finally Set a Monster and End their Turn. No offense to newbies, or the apperantly offensive term n00b, but sometimes you annoy me. Lucky for you, most of the time I’m willing to help you guys out. *sigh* Had to get that off my chest.

By the way, if any of you out there also have the game, my online name is “04smelsa”. We’ll duel sometime. Anyway, the online service is free until around April, but I don’t care. I’ll probably subscribe anyway.

It seems that Yu-Gi-Oh! Online is still going strong despite the franchise’s waning popularity. Although there have been times that I felt like dusting off my old Yu-Gi-Oh! deck, I think that my time as a duelist has long since past. Who knows, I might pick up the latest Yu-Gi-Oh! video game and get back into it all over again. Now, if only there was a Magic: The Gathering video game for the Nintendo DS too…

In other news, the effects of the tsunami still ring here in Ohio, in the form of consistantly BLAH weather. It’s either raining or cloudy. I feel like I’m in Seattle. Now, why do I feel the urge to play Nirvana…?

Anyway, I also added some cool pics in the About Me section. They’re some of my favorite characters. Well, I gotta go. Bye!

“Smooth move, Ex-Lax!”

-John from McDonald’s

While it hasn’t been raining here lately, it has been snowing. A lot! I hate driving in the snow!!

Now let’s finish it off with a look back to three years ago when I came back to UU after being put on academic suspension:

I’m Baaaaaaaaack!!!!1

Sup my peeps this be the Andy-San back here at UU!!! After a grueling period of not knowing if I can come back or not, I’m FINALLY BACK!!!! My mom said that my stepdad and I need some space so she said that I won’t be able to come back home til Spring Break. I’ll definatly have to do my laundry here til then so yeah. I’m so damn psyched to be back in UU again. My stepdad was right about one thing; I do need a job. I’ll look into getting a workstudy job with the IT department tomarrow along with finding out the status of my financial aid.

As you can tell, I was very excited & relieved to be back at UU after I had written back and forth to the admissions department. Unfortunately, as you all know, I was kicked out for good at the end of the semester due to me not giving a crap after finding out that I would need to pay off the previous semester before I could continue and that my financial aid wouldn’t cover it for me.

My life took some major twists and turns after that; some good and some bad. Earlier this month, I made a decision that would help me get back to college and even take me to Japan! I’m gonna record & upload a vlog this week that’ll explain it in more detail. Stay tuned for that!!

In other news, the DoD project fell through because we ran out of time and because I couldn’t play some measures. It also didn’t help that I was facing a possible suspension from UU at the time either. Don’t fear, the majority of the project is done and saved on E’s hard drive so I’ll supergank it so he doesn’t accidentely delete it (he has a bad habit of doing that). Perhaps we’ll have it done for the next free month. Sorry guys.

Well I’m gonna go celebrate my return with E and Dan so peace-out to all my homies and a big thanks to everyone who supported me during this very rough patch in my life.

Ah, the DoD project! Yeah, although I’ve tried many times to finally get it recorded with everybody, it seems to go south every time. I think that once I get better equipment, I’ll try to put out something for DoD. It’ll happen someday, I promise!!

Well gang, it’s been fun but I’m gonna get going. See you guys!!

Deja Vuesday Holiday Edition – 12/22/2004

Happy Holidays everybody!!

Sorry this came out waaaay later than normal, but I had a ton of stuff to do today.

For this week’s Holiday Edition of Deja Vuesday, I’d like to take a look back to five years ago when I was reflecting upon the financial consequences of buying a $23,000 trading card:

Hey, what’s goin’ on? I finally added the TTGC bios after I forgot to last time. Sorry! I removed the cool former theme of Whuzzupp!! for an adequete Mega Man X3 Intro Stage MIDI. The reason behind this is because everytime I try to add anything to the site, my data transfer limit is exceeded. So while we will all miss this incredibly cool theme, I must remove it for the sake of the rest of the site. If you want the song, contact me and put in your subject “Song”, otherwise I might not read it. Accursed SPAM!!!! See my new “About Me” page for contact info.

Back then, it was hard to add multimedia to websites because you were always afraid of exceeding the allowed daily bandwidth, even if you were just checking the pages to see if everything was working. Now, it’s much easier to add multimedia to a website thanks to services like YouTube and Flickr, not to mention the increased bandwidth that’s able to handle it all.

Sometimes, I miss the early days because websites were simpler to design and maintain than nowadays, but all I have to do is visit a random MySpace page to remind myself that technology progresses for a reason.

Well boys and girls, the holidays are upon us. And yes, I did here about the idiot that bought the $23,000 Cyber-Stein when he knows full well that Upper Deck is gonna re-release it as an easier-to-get promo card. Duh! And my folks say that spending $20 on cards is stupid…I mean honestly, who out there has 23 large to spend on one single card? Anyone? C’mon, don’t be shy. I guess no one except that idjit (translation: big idiot). Now if I had 23 big ones, besides obvious choices on what to spend it on, (car, house, semi-permenent vacation from McDonald’s, the list goes on), I would make sure it was all well-spent. Even if I used every last cent on nothing but Yu-Gi-Oh cards, I would make sure I got the most bang for my buck. For example, instead of getting 1 card, I would get lots and lots of booster boxes. Or better yet, I would buy UDE stock.

The first review of the (at the time) tournament legal Cyber Stein can be found here via Pojo.com. Five years later, I still think that $23,000 is a ridiculous amount to pay for a trading card!

Well anyway, now that I’m out of Rant-Mode, I finally have my computer upgraded and man, what a difference! I went from my rockin (sarcastic) 128 MB of RAM to a poultry 640 MB of RAM. I also got a DVD burner, which is kickin’! I can’t wait to get another 512 MB stick of RAM! As of this update, all of my Christmas shopping is done! Huzzah!! All I have to do is give out the presents for my friends Eric and Steve. By the way, Eric; if you’re reading this, please update your site. I’m sure all of us would love to here what you’ve been up to lately.

Oh my, how the times have changed! In March of 2009, I bought my HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop on eBay, which is also my third computer overall. It has 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 dual-core processor, and a DVD burner. Ironically, the laptop’s DVD burner is slower than the one for my desktop, and it’s five years old!

Since I don’t have a job, I don’t have the funds to buy stuff for my friends (or even myself). Sorry guys!

Speaking of jobs, I did have an interview today for a temporary position at a local bank that went well. I should hear back from them by the beginning of next year if I’m hired. I can’t wait!! *fingers crossed*

In other news, our local Wal-Mart is announcing a Duelist League coming in January. That’s all I heard so far. I will keep you updated when possible. Another bit of local news, we are scheduled to be buried in snow 5 to 10 inches deep. Huzzah!! A White Christmas!!!

Well, boys and girls, it’s that time. Time to go the the outside world to deliver the first of my presents to Steve, as he is the closest, it’s getting dark, and with the descent of 5-10 in. of snow coming, he is the best choice. Sorry Eric, but you and Ben’s present is coming. Buh-By!

“Pokemon?! Pokemon!! With the Poke and the Mon, and the guy, he comes out, and he goes ‘awhaga, awhaga, awhaga’!

-A relative translation of Bill Cosby’s reaction to Pokemon on an episode of The Simpsons.

Yeah, the Wal-Mart Duelist League never happened. It got as far as the flyers and that’s about it 🙁 .

It’s too bad that I didn’t get into Magic: The Gathering as much as I did for Yu-Gi-Oh! because I sometimes miss playing it with Eriopolis, Cody, and everybody else. Since there’s no (decent) MTG video game and the online version is so-so, I can’t practice by myself. Also, money’s tight so my buying abilities are limited.

Well gang, it’s been fun, but I gotta work on some stuff so see you guys later!

Deja Vuesday – Help Me Find A Niche!!!

It’s time once again to take a look at the past and see how it applies to me today!

In this week’s Deja Vuesday, we take a look back to exactly one year ago when I was looking for a niche to fill:

Hello there!

I bought the SiteBuildIt! kit today and I’ve been using the BrainstormIt! feature, which lets you look up keywords and compare them using the “(demand/supply)*1,000=profitability” formula. I’ve looked up broad terms like “guitar” and “anime” and I’m using the keywords that I get back in order to figure out which niches are profitable and which aren’t.

Here are the broad keywords that I put in that came out with a high profitability:

anime, band, drawing, fiction, japanese, local bands, magic the gathering, manga, shred guitar, and writing.

Out of those broad keywords, I have compiled a list of keywords with the highest demand and the lowest supply (that’s a good thing, hehe). Note the inter-relationships between them. Here they are from least profitable to most:

“japanese nudities”
“ufo band”
“lap band surgery failure”
“briefcase in pulp fiction”
“japanese zodiac”
“beauty pop manga”
“baseball diamond drawing”
“drawing graffiti letters”
“local phoenix bands”
“drawing of a red rose”
“how to shred guitar”
“anime drawing guide”
“drawing giantess”
“harry potter slash fiction”
“free book writing software”
“pencil drawing of a fairy”
“rat drawing”
“las vegas local bands”
“pittsburgh local bands”
“train the band”
“write my name in japanese”
“how to draw manga hair”
“pencil drawing of a skull”
“buying magic the gathering cards”
“basic magic the gathering rules”
“anime expansion”
“dress up anime games”
“drawing character cartoon”
“japanese symbol dictionary”
“how to draw anime hair”
“male pregnancy fiction”
“how to draw manga eyes”
“magic the gathering wallpaper”
“magic the gathering rulebook”
“anime hug”
“how to draw anime faces”

The last one, “how to draw anime faces”, was the only one to go over 1,000,000 (it was damn close to 2,000,000 in fact). Let me explain. Remember the “(demand/supply)*1,000=profitability” formula I talked about earlier? In essence, I want to build a business around a niche that has a high demand and a low supply. The reasons for this are twofold.

First off, building a business around a niche that has a high demand is like selling ice cream in the summertime. You have a product that is in high demand and that can be immediatly bought by the customers. It’s much harder to sell ice cream in the wintertime than during summer.

Secondly, building a business around a niche that has a low supply will allow the little guy (me!) to harness a generous and steady stream of income much easier than trying to compete with all the big boys. It’s like trying to get food with big mean dudes guarding it.

Now getting back to the numbers. Although I don’t know the details, I can reason that the supply and demand figures are generated by the amount of search engine traffic and other websites’ keywords. Of course, the profitability is generated by dividing the demand by the supply and multiplying it by 1,000. Why 1,000? I dunno.

So what keywords do you think that I should look further into? I can’t wait to hear what you guys have to say about it!

I can’t believe that I bought the SiteBuildIt! kit. Wow! Now don’t get me wrong, it’s perfect for business beginners and people who don’t want to fuss around with technology, but for someone like me who knows a thing or two about how to build a website, it just didn’t work. I got a refund less than a month later and decided to do things my own way.

I’m not trying to discourage you from buying similar products; I’m just saying that what didn’t work for me might work out fine for you and visa-versa.

I was looking at the keywords and I’m kinda bummed that the Magic: The Gathering blog didn’t happen. I planned on helping create a blog about Magic that would have articles by Eriopolis and my other Magic playing friends, but because of everyone’s current workload at college and graduate school, I doubt that it would have fresh content beyond summer and winter breaks.

If everyone is willing to contribute content for it, then I’d be more than happy helping them set everything up and submitting articles myself, although I don’t wanna do everything all the time because it would take too much time away from my own blogging and vlogging. Yes I’m unemployed right now and I have a lot of free time, but that won’t always be the case. I might have a job for a month or two 😉 .

Well gang, it’s been fun, but I gotta run. See ya next time!

Whatcha Gonna Do When Eriopolis Runs Wild On j00?!!!1

Mornin’, it’s TheAndySan hurr with some awesome news.

Eriopolis has qualified for regionals in Magic: The Gathering. Right now, my boy E-Dub is in Columbus taking on the best in Ohio. I’m so fucking proud of him, even if he comes home with a big goose egg for victories!! We’re all rooting for you E!!!1

Lately, I’ve been hooked on When The Sun Sleeps by Underoath. I don’t like the screaming at all, but the actual singing parts are totally worth enduring the screams. Give it a whirl on the ol’ dusty CD player!

In other news, I’m gonna be seeing Great White tonight at their cancer benefit concert. I’m totally stoked for this, guys!!

Also in other news, I’ve created Eights and Aces MySpace page. I’ll be in charge of it so when they start doing live shows, I’ll put up videos as well as songs. Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/eightsandaces!!

I seriously can’t wait until I get my external hard drive up and running again. Those data recovery services are f’n expensive though. However, considering how much money I’m pulling in with this site, it might not be too much longer til it’s fixed. Data Recovery: I Needs It.

Well, I’m gonna watch some To Love-Ru so I’ll post after the Great White concert. Later days!

P.S: It’s been 1,515 days since I had a website.

With Our Powers Combined, We Are Spamtron!!!1

…No, not really. Hey guys, it be the Andy-San here.

I had a blast with everyone at good ol’ UU!! I feel human now that I saw everyone from college. Before I felt like a robot that gets up, goes to work, works, comes home, eats, sleeps, and does it all over again. We played Magic (I’m using Eric’s Red deck of D00M!), watched anime, and I got to see the new dorm and the single rooms. Also, members from the BGSU and Wittenberg anime clubs came to UU to meet with Genshiken UU. The VP of the Wittenberg anime club had an ungodly amount of anime that easily put my collection and Eric’s collection combined to shame.

I talked with my mom and stepdad about the loans for UU and we agreed to see what happens with my meeting at ITT Tech. They still plan on starting a freight business, but they’ll get their loan the first of 2008. This means that if it takes me 6-9 months to graduate ITT Tech like I planned, it’s still possible for me to have my parents cosign my loans for UU since their credit check for their loan will happen well before I graduate ITT Tech. They didn’t give me a definate yes or no answer, and I didn’t expect them to. Like I said before, they want to know what’s going on with ITT Tech before they do anything with my loans.

Well, I’m gonna watch some Bleach so g’ night!

It's So Hot Outside!!

You got the Andy-San here so getcha pull off of this shizz (no not the forum).

I worked at McDonald’s today and it wasn’t so bad except for the morning rush that was nuckin’ futz and the heat that was teh suk. After work I took over the trash and ran into Eriopolis so I chilled with him, Abbey, Cricket, and Ellen from work. Me and E (fear my 1337 grammorz) went to his house to play some Magic. I really want to construct a Dimur discard deck.

Well I’m gonna go and see if I can play someone on Apprentice MTG so peace out!

Wigga Hit My Mirror!!!

Hey guys it’s the Andy-San with news.

I got to chill with Eriopolis today for a couple hours. He ganked the rest of FullMetal Alchemist from me while we played Magic and E showed me some of his drummin’ skills on a drumpad that he or Ben got. I also finished the song “Play It Loud”, which is a parody-of-sorts of the song “Cool It Now” by New Edition. My vocals aren’t the best, but it’s an okay song considering I made it in about 2 hours. It should be up on ODK’s MySpace soon. Speaking of which, ODK really needs to get together sometime so we can do a full recording. I need to get back in guitar-shape because it’s been too long since I’ve practiced regularly.

So my day was okay until I was getting to my car at the end of my shift with Wal-Mart. Some guy clipped my driver-side mirror on my car; luckily there was no other damage to it. All I know is that it was a white vehicle that struck it from the back since the mirror was 5 feet from the car and there’s a white streak on the side of it. I called the police and they did a police report (not a crash report) on it and the officer told me to give him a call if I found out anything about who struck my car. So after that I told a manager to leave a note for the lady in charge of surveillance about where my car was, the relative time it was hit, and the color of my car and suspected car. I’ll see what’s going on with that tomarrow when I come in to work.

Well that was my day and now I’m going to hit teh sack. Peace!

P.S: Play It Loud is up on ODK’s MySpace at www.myspace.com/oofdakitty
