…is the new name of Travis and Kyle’s band. Hey guys it’s the Andy-San here again.
I went to watch Insult To Injury perform their first gig yesterday at the Grand Slam for some Halloween party and they were amazing!! They totally blew Short Fuse’s (formerly Identity Crisis) first gig out of the water! To be fair thought, Travis didn’t break a string like Ben did. The first band that went on (I think their name was Storm something-or-other) was a power trio who reminded of Nirvana. Their first couple songs were kinda meh, but the singer started to really dig in by the third song and rocked the place. The second band was a rap group and although I detest most rap, they really surprised me, especially the frontman. My big gripe with them is that they stayed on for far too long, although the girls seemed to really dig ‘em, and cut into Insult To Injury’s set time by at least a half-hour.
When they finally came on, I was glad I stayed for them. Their bass player is my bro’s age and held a solid groove with an iron grip. Kyle’s drumming was manic to say the least, but he kept a beat. His drumming reminds me of John Bonham and Keith Moon in that it’s hard, aggressive, but keeps a beat amid the chaos. Travis’ guitar playing was outta sight, but my big gripe with him was that his stage demeanor was too subdued. While from a technical prospective he was great, I felt that he didn’t put feeling into his playing and was just running pentatonics at top speed. As for their vocalist, well, he sucked. He had a very generic rock voice that seemed technically limited and I was dissappointed. He seemed like a reluctant frontman and it was especially apparent when, during Travis’ solo for Crazy Train, he hunched over the amp like he was gonna pass out or something. Also, he left right after their set without staying for an encore or to clean up, which I thought was quite rude of him to do. I told Travis that if he’s looking for a new vocalist to consider me as his replacement.
I’ve been self-concience about my singing voice for some time because I think that it’s too pop-sounding, but after a good performance at UU’s talent show, I’ve been practicing to improve my voice. It may not be up to my standards right now, but I feel that I can’t improve until I get someone else’s opinion as well as practicing with a band. Don’t get me wrong, I still want to play guitar and keys too, but I feel that my voice needs improvement at the moment. Speaking of guitar, I owe around $175 left on my acoustic and I can’t wait until it’s mine!!
Well, I’m gonna go and watch some Fruits Basket (I’m up to episode 7 and it’s really fucking funny, especially the sixth episode). Take ‘er easy!
Andy-San
Edit: I put up where Insult To Injury played at. Thanks Ben for pointing that out.

Hmm, I thought I wrote that they performed at the Grand Slam, but I guess not. But yeah, they performed at the Grand Slam for some Halloween party.
It was a mixture of originals and covers, but mostly covers due to their lack of stage time.
Yeah, Travis was blazing that night, but I didn’t sense any feeling behind it. As far as who played with the most feeling out of those 4 guys, it was definatly Kyle. He tore up the place man!!
