Guitar Center Sessions – Heart Turned Black (Acoustic) – 03

Here’s a quick acoustic cover of Heart Turned Black, originally done by my friends’ long-defunct band Eights and Aces.

I’m playing a Taylor 210 CE-G. I’m recording this via the front camera on my Droid 4.

Enjoy and please comment!!

Eights and Aces II: The Re-Uploading

Hey guys, it’s been awhile since I was last on here!

Recently, Google Videos announced that it would remove all of their videos, but then later changed it to where you could transfer all of your videos to YouTube. In light of this news, I decided to move all of my old Google Videos to my YouTube account for your viewing pleasure!

Here are all of the main videos of Eights and Aces, compiled together into one convenient playlist video. Enjoy!

Eights and Aces BONUS Footage

While I visited my friends, I found a clip from Eights and Aces’ 7-12-2008 practice session that didn’t get put on the main video. I don’t know exactly why, but it’s probably because I didn’t have proper video editing software.

Here is Eights and Aces doing their Intro Jam:

You might have recognized that this is similar to what they did way back in their first video:

It’s a little different, but I liked their “new” intro jam a bit better just because they’re so much better as players in that video. Watching all these videos makes me wish that Eights and Aces would kick out the jams again! I can’t wait for summer when everyone comes back from college!!

Looking Back – A Reflection of Reflecting

Lately, I’ve been feeling introspective. I’m looking through the projects that I had a hand in. Things like Oof Da Kitty and Eights and Aces.

You can check out some of ODK’s music at I’ve posted videos of Eights And Aces here before, but you can click here for a list of their videos on Google and you can add them as a friend on their Myspace.

Oof Da Kitty – Experimental Rock Comedy At Its Best/Worst!

Here is some information on the band that was Oof Da Kitty:

(The Official ODK Bio on Myspace and ODK, which is short for Oof Da Kitty, was the bandname for brothers Ben and Eric W. Miller’s early music. They were later joined by Eric’s friend Andy-San, who appeared on vocals for their debut album, “thE theoRy In miC.” After the completion of TTIM, they tried to come up with original material for their next album, “Be thE oNe”, but it ultimatly fell through. Andy-San recorded some very experimental songs in hopes to revive ODK but the brothers Miller were uninspired by them since they were parodies of existing songs. ODK has attempted numerous times to submit a song for the Dwelling of Duels competition, but have submitted nothing so far. Due to the first attempt backfiring, Andy-San was inspired to create “Trifecta (The Song of Nothing)”, a podcast initially to deliver an apology for not making a song, but evolved into something else entirely. This prompted two more rants, “Nothing Can Happen” and “We Call Him…Stabby [Gormak Is Invincible!!! (Cody’s Grad Party)]”. Andy-San’s also remixed Trifecta twice. Since then, Ben has become the lead guitarist for his band called Short Fuse (formerly Identity Crisis). Eric steps in on vocals sometimes during jam sessions and is also the band’s unofficial gear technician. Andy-San runs the ODK MySpace and is working to become a guitarist and possibly vocalist in his own right. He also consistantly jams with Short Fuse. According to his blogs on ODK’s MySpace, Andy-San still wants ODK to rejoin and record some new tunes. Both of the Millers have agreed to do so, but only when someone submits an idea for an original song.

(Excerpt from the original ODK website) We are a InSaNe Group of people that started our “rebellion” in 2000, Before most u ppl even knew about us. We are round pegs in square holes. We’re not fond or rules and we have no respect the status quo. nor do we show ne respect for a man who hits a woman. Note 2 u : We c u do that u my as well start runnin 4 the hills, cuz theres a chamber deep inside the brain… it’s covered w/ chains so don’t b shakin it loose…and if u do,,, oof the hills head 4 the mountains!!!! We have no agenda, we do what we do because we want to and know nothing else. we’ve never felt so alone and at sametime we’ve never felt so alive. our lives is our minds and minds is our lives. These lives that we have now have givin us more than ne of us ever expected. but it’s hard to live in a world that is sinking more and more each day. It takes more that negativity to keep us down and block our path of ambition, desire and destiny. If u heard the story about or friend that got “deported” from london yes it was true. I’m not tellin the story because I need Austins Permission. If u wish 2 join us add us and we will decide whether u can or not by the way ne of u football jocks, don’t even try and get in!!

Yeah, I’ll admit, ODK’s music is a little rough. We didn’t have much back then. Hell, I had to piece together those songs with Windows Sound Maker, which could only record up to 60 seconds of audio at a time! I don’t even remember how I compiled it all. Oh, how I miss those days! Back when Ben had his cheap-o Esteban Midnight electric guitar (it was stolen from the music store somehow) that we plugged directly into the legendary karaoke machine along with a microphone. That machine had the deepest reverb/echo I’ve ever heard!! Spider-Dan, bitches!! Although, I still think that the demos that aren’t on ODK’s Myspace are better than the ones that are. I wish that ODK would come back! Knowing what we know now, I’m positive that we could make some better quality songs.

Eights and Aces – An All-American Band

When it comes to Eights and Aces, I still really wish I was in that band. What can I say, I love making music with my friends and would totally join them if they asked me to (and even if they didn’t ask me, hehe).

Here is their bio, as typed by me:

Eights and Aces are a group of friends that wanna kick ass and play music! Their first incarnation was Identity Crisis. After new bassist Cody joined to free up then-bassist/vocalist Ryan so he can just sing, they became Short Fuse. Short Fuse was short-lived however, and then was given new life as Eights and Aces.

*UPDATE on 8/1/2008!!!*
Because of the new, heavier direction that Eights and Aces wants to pursue, they have relieved Ryan of his singing duties. Eights and Aces is now looking for a new vocalist with a strong background in hard rock and heavy metal, a solid voice to match, and creative input. If you fulfill these requirements, please leave us a message here or call Ben’s cell at 419-953-0290 and we’ll set up an audition.

Currently, the band’s set-list consists of primarily cover songs with a few added originals.

They are currently on college hiatus. Come summer 2009, they’ll be accepting gigs and will play at any type of venue. If you are looking to book Eights and Aces, leave us a message and we’ll respond as soon as possible.

When they come back, I have a feeling they’re gonna come back as a different band.

Goofy (their singer) was fired before they went in hiatus for college in August. I also heard that Cody (their bassist) quit. I’m not sure about that one, but I am sure that they can get him to come back if he did quit.

When I join or form a band, I want to have people that I know, trust, and get along with as my bandmates. Talent and skill are nice to have, but they can be improved upon. It’s not that big of a deal to me if you’re not that good; unless you really really suck, hehe. If you’re working with players that you’re not compatible with, aside from going to therapy or something, it’s very unlikely that you’ll get along down the road.

So when you reflect on something fondly, what do you remember? Leave me a comment below!

P.S: I seem to have forgotten’s 6-month anniversary yesterday. Happy Belated 6-Months! And here’s to many moAr!

My Acoustic Cover of Heart Turned Black

I was kinda bored today so I decided to record some videos of me playing my acoustic. This video is of me doing the rhythm part of Heart Turned Black, one of Eights and Aces’ original songs. I fudged up a couple parts and played the whole thing way too fast, but it’s okay I guess. Enjoy!

I’ve also added some cool features to the site like a post ratings system and different stats of the site in the sidebar. Check ’em out!

Well, I’m gonna practice my guitar playing some more. I’ll see you guys later!

The Niche Itch

Hey guys, long time no blog. It’s TheAndySan, the one and only, hurr again…with pants!

Okay first up, I’ve been stupid-busy as of late so if my blogs were a bit inconsistent both topically and chronologically, I apologize. This is the jist of my days lately: Wake up, eat something, call or get called by Eriopolis or Ben, hang out with them and then work or visa versa, come home at a ridiculously late hour, and sleep/pass out on the couch.

Despite all of this going on, I have managed to make some rather big changes to this blog. You might have noticed that I removed the group of share buttons in favor of the Share This! expanding button. This also made the Technorati button in the sidebar obsolete, so I scrapped that as well. Since my AdSense has been super-nuked, I’ve put up Chikita ads in the meantime until I get my Yahoo Publisher Network account approved. More to come on that so stay tuned!

So, why is this post called The Niche Itch? Because it’s a bitchin’ rhyme? Well, yes and no. I’ve been doing a lot of reading from the bloggers that pull in a shit-ton of money. We’re talking hundreds of dollars daily, if not thousands. They all pretty much say the same thing: “Find a niche and don’t jump off-topic too often.” In other words, “Be specific! B-E specific!” There is a large amount of evidence to prove that if you settle on a main topic and talk about nothing but it, then you’re gonna get tons of viewers followed by tons of money. Who am I to buck the trend? I am officially announcing the main topic of this blog: my life. With my life as my main topic, I am now free to talk about whatever I want since EVERYTHING has some sort of relation to my life. Whether it’s an interesting article that I read in the newspaper or what I did with my friends the other day, everything has some sort of relation to my life. The only things I can’t talk about in this blog are things that I am not aware of. As I become more aware of things, I can incorporate more topics as well as shuffle out the topics that I’m bored with. This is how I can talk about Magic: The Gathering, playing guitar, working at Wal-Mart, and my life goals ALL IN THE SAME POST! All of these topics relate to my life because they play a part in my life, however big or small in importance.

In other news, my lesson with Rich today was really awesome! I learned that I only really need to learn any scale in one key since they can all be transposed by however many half-steps the initial key is to the new key. For example, if I wanted to change from G to A, I would move wherever I am up two frets since A is only a whole-step up from G. I never realized that until today. In essence, I have learned to play lead in any key possible. I also learned that the minor pentatonic and the major pentatonic are very closely related. For example, the 1st position minor pattern is exactly the same as the 5th position major pattern, just starting somewhere different. It was such a revelation for me!

Also in other news, I’ve added new st00f to the Eights and Aces MySpace page. It’s not a lot, but it’s something. You can take a gander at I jammed with Ben today and he said that I’ve improved so much as a player. I taught him how to play Still Got The Blues by Gary Moore last night and he played it for me, but it was a bit off. Not by much, but he’s got the first part pretty down so it’s all good.

Fairly recently, Cody, my friend and the bassist for Eights and Aces, moved out of his parents’ house and into an apartment with his girlfriend Danielle. It’s a pretty sw33t pad, especially for his first apartment. We played a lot of Magic: The Gathering there. It’s also a million times cooler, in relation to temperature, than Eriopolis’ room since Cody’s apartment has excellent circulation and Eriopolis’ room has ziltch.

Well, I’m gonna go to bed so I’ll see you guys on the flip-side! Laterz!!

P.S: It’s been 28 days since has been up. As I’ve said before, I took away the social bookmarking site buttons and replaced them with Share This! because it’s easier and much moAr aesthetically pleasing. If any of you guys use Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, etc., you can submit my stuff to them that way.

So Menards Is Open Now…

…and it’s f’n huge!!! Hey guys, it’s TheAndySan here with another quick update.

I’ve added a little bit to The History of TheAndySan so be sure to check it out.

As the title says, I visited the new Menards that opened up in my area and it’s wayyyyy bigger than Wal-Mart. It’s like comparing the old Wal-Mart to the Super Wal-Mart. Unfortunatly, Billy, my former manager at Toxic Hell, works there…Awkward Turtle…

Kinda in other news, I bought the new issue of Rolling Stone and it has the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All Time in it. No, Stairway To Heaven isn’t number 1. Neither is anything by Hendrix. *l33t soiler* It’s Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode *end of l33t soiler*

I’m really f’n poor right now. All I have is $10 in my wallet. I seriously can’t wait to get paid on Thursday!!

Well, I’m gonna go now so I’ll see you guys around. I’ll end this with a video almost completely devoid of guitar. It’s Miami Sound Machine’s Dr. Beat! Enjoy!!:
