In this week’s N-FAQs, we look at how much money you can make while in the Navy!
hi i have a friend he plans on joining the navy he told me that the recruiter told him that he would make 30,000 a year starting off so about 1,400 every two weeks is this true my friend is doing this only for the money he thinks navy is like his mill ticket lol but i think the recruiter only told him the good can u tell me some things that the recruiter wouldnt tell him
Thanks for the email! Sorry it took me a bit to answer this question, but I did some research to come up with my answer.
The truth is that unless he’s becoming an officer, there’s no way that he’ll be making that much money starting out. Just google 2011 military pay chart to see how much each rank makes. Of course, he could make more than that depending on how many allotments he has.
Generally speaking, an allotment is additional income that is based on certain circumstances and criteria. Some examples include allotments for housing, food, being away from your spouse, being out to sea, knowing a foreign language, debt relief, and so on. Also, if you’re married and living with your spouse, your housing & food allotments increase quite a bit.
As far as what the recruiter won’t tell him, well that depends on what rate your friend’s picking and how much the recruiter knows/is willing to tell. Something that I’ve learned is that every situation is different, so even if he has an honest recruiter, he/she might not know enough about what job he’ll have in the navy. Heck, I didn’t even know much about my job as a sonar technician until well after I graduated boot camp.
The best thing that I can recommend is for your friend to do some serious research. If he’s willing to dedicate 4-8 years of his life to the navy after that, then by all means sign up! If not, don’t worry since the military’s not for everyone.
Hope this helped and I wish you guys the best!
Thanks again for tuning in! You can submit questions of your own by personal message or via the comments below! If your question is picked to be featured in an episode of N-FAQs, then I’ll put up a link to your YouTube page in addition to giving you a shout-out. If you would like to remain anonymous, please say so in your message. I hope to hear from you guys soon. Hooyah!!
I recorded this N-FAQ on my webcam several weeks ago, back when I first got Phase 2 liberty. Ah, good times…
But anyway, in this week’s episode of N-FAQS, I answer some of your questions about whether or not to even join the Navy!
Hey I have a personal question. I am currently enrolled in college I am recently a HS graduate and I live with my mom. I am thinking about dropping out of college to join the Navy because I feel it would be more beneficial and also I want to get out of my living situation (my mom moves to the point where it effect my life and I don’t get along with her).
I also want a chance away from family because they are affecting me negatively as well (considering whether or not to be estranged). I also don’t want to take any loans out (which i would have to do if I stay in college)
Please give me your advice and do you think going to the Navy is a good idea?
I think that joining the Navy is a great idea, but you have to be extremely motivated in order to get anywhere around here. If not, then not only will you not get promoted or be eligible for reenlistment (which can affect your future employment), you could get discharged.
This is gonna sound strange, but you will miss your parents after being away from them for awhile. I trust that you’ve seen some of my older videos where I’m frustrated with what my parents were doing to me; all that petty stuff became irrelevant for the most part when I joined the Navy and left for boot camp. Does that mean that the Navy fixed my problems at home? No, not really. It was simply being outside of the parental bubble that allowed time and a phone call or two to fix things up, not to mention weekly letters and now emails.
Also, if you don’t like to move, then the military might not be for you. Although there is a consistency here so you won’t be totally lost, the only true constant in the Navy is change. Whether that means changing barracks here on base (which I had to do on Wednesday) or going to a whole new command, you have to accept that change is inevitable and be motivated to learn how things work and where things are (like the NEX and the galley).
It’s good that you don’t want to take loans out; although the Navy doesn’t like Sailors to have debt, they do have programs that can help you out if you do have debt.
The most important thing you have to realize about the Navy is that it’s a commitment. It’s not a job or a quick way out. It’s a commitment to yourself, your shipmates, your country, your friends, and yes, even your family.
Thanks for the email and I hope to hear from you again!
I still have two more N-FAQs already recorded that I’ll be uploading before I upload newer material, so this is an opportune time to send me your questions either via message, comment. or video response!
Since I’m getting very close to my ATT graduation date, I’ll be working extra-hard to graduate on time (November 16th is looking to be a very likely date). This means that my uploading schedule might get a little irregular, although weekends is usually a good time for me to upload things (or while I’m sleeping).
In this week’s episode of N-FAQS, I answer some of your questions about Navy boot camp!
Question 1: How much money do u get after boot camp?
Response:It all depends on your rank and how much you spend, but I had about $1,500 right after boot camp.
Question 2: Do they make y’all eat fast?
Response:Depends on your definition of “fast”. Normally, we’d get about 15-20 minutes to eat.
My suggestion would be to pick soft foods as you spend less time chewing them (bananas over apples). Speaking of which, bananas are an excellent choice because they give you an energy boost and help with muscle fatigue. I’d usually grab two at a time whenever they were available.
Also, hydration and overall health are paramount so I’d suggest grabbing two glasses for every meal: one for water and one for either orange juice or cranberry juice. Seriously, it’ll save you unnecessary trips to medical and hassle in general.
Question 3: How much do they make y’all run?
Response:They progressively make you run more during PT time and it’ll be really intimidating when you first look at it, but by the time you get to that point, your body will be well-adjusted to it and it won’t be much of a problem.
They do make you march a lot, but I think that helps with the running.
Question 4: What is the lowest u can get on the ASVAB and get in the navy?
Response:That depends on what you want to do, but I’d say if you got a 70 or higher, you can pretty much get whatever job they have available. If they offer you the nuke test, take it because it’ll open up even more opportunities for you.
For instance, even though I failed the nuke test (by only 2 points, dammit!), I believe that me taking it and almost passing gave me the rate & benefits I have now. Accelerated advancement is a beautiful thing, my friend!
Life In…Series Is Coming Back!
Tomorrow, I’ll be heading out with a couple of shipmates from my boot camp division to downtown Chicago to see the sights!
Since I finally have my new camera, a Sanyo Xacti SH-1, I’ll be recording material for an upcoming Life In… episode. However, I can’t edit it because I don’t have my main laptop with me to edit videos. Heck, my netbook can’t even really play HD videos, much less edit them, but that’s not why I bought it.
Anyway, my laptop’s being mailed out to me so I’ll be able to start working on them soon. Stay tuned!!
This Christmas is absolutely fabulous, just like Pegasus!
I’m quite angered that Wal-Mart’s not open so I can get my presents with my Christmas money. As the super-special-awesome picture says, “Screw The Yules, I Have Money!”
Attention duelists, my hair has to go take a dump…In America!
Editor’s Note: TheAndySan is too preoccupied by Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series to write a decent article. Or do anything else of worth for that matter. So if you’re looking for an insightful article, I’m sure you’ll find one in the archives. Maybe. Probably not.
As the title says, I’m in the market for a job online. I’m looking for something leaning towards writing like a blogging job. No, I haven’t given up on any of my website ideas.
The reason I’m doing this is so that I can make a living doing something that is not only fulfilling, but relevant to my career. I feel that I have a lot to learn about before I really hit it big online. I also want to improve my writing skills, and if I do that with a larger audience, then I’ll be able to gather results quicker than if I just focused on TheAndySan.com.
Basically, here’s my life plan at the moment:
1. Get an online job as a blogger to improve my writing skills and gather a larger audience.
2. Once I start making money from blogging for other people, then I will save up that money to buy a car.
3. When I get a car, then I’ll save up to move out with my friends in July-August of 2009.
4. When I move out, if my site isn’t earning me a high enough income to live off of by then, I’ll continue to blog for other people until it does.
5. Once I’m earning a high enough income from my website to live off of that is also consistent, then I’ll shift most of my focus to it and possibly continue blogging for other people.
After I do all that, I’m not sure what I’ll do. Depending on how much money I get, I could take my friends and family with me on trips around the world. I’m sure that when I complete the above list, possibilities that I’m currently unaware of will reveal themselves.
Well, I’m gonna watch some of Please Teacher until it’s time for dinner. I’ll be back later on to show my Drawing of the Day (I think I’ll call it that from now on). Bye!
…And I’ve come up with a lot of ideas! Hey guys, it’s TheAndySan with pants. Yes, pants.
I haven’t been updating as much as I used to because I’ve had a lot on my mind lately. I’ve been thinking of my future and what I’ll be doing in order to make enough money to support myself. In all honesty, I can’t support myself just working at Wal-Mart, at least not as a cashier. I could try to move up in order to make moAr money, but that would take too long and working at Wal-Mart isn’t what I wanna do long-term. Basically, Wal-Mart is my steady income until I can live off of making money from my websites.
My plan is to make several (probably no more than 10) websites of different interests of mine. Those sites’ll be my main sources of income, and I’ll still have this site up as my personal blog. I was gonna make these sites into social networks, but for simplicity’s sake, I’ll make them into a blog & forum combo. I’ll submit my stuff on the blogs and other members can submit their things on the forums. I’ll have ads mostly on the blog sections with some in the forums. I dunno how I’ll organize it, but I’ll get there when I get there.
If you haven’t already noticed, I’ve dramatically changed the look of this site. I got the theme from Dosh Dosh so kudos to you sir!! I don’t usually like 3-column blogs, but this one’s set up nicely so I think I’ll keep it around for awhile.
Well, I’m gonna go eat so I’ll see you guys later. Bye!
Sorry about the absence. I had some problems with my Internets, but they’re fixed…for now…
Jon’s living with us again. I guess it’s back to sleeping on the couch.
Last week was fucking crazy. As you guys know, my truck broke down. I sold it to the guy to cover labor and I got $75 out of it. After I sold it, I found out that I could have sold it to a junkyard for wayyy moAr, even after towing costs.
Because of my transportation situation, my mom’s letting me use Jon’s moped. Honestly, It’s a really nice moped, but it’s been draining my money as of late. It cost me $88 to insure it for a year (amazing, but it still sucks in the short-term), $30-something for new plates and tags that expire in November (I really hope I’m not still riding it by then), $12 for a new chain & lock, $5 for an awesome screwdriver for when the fuse blows up every time I start it and I push the fuse holder into the other side of the tank, and $38 for a new back tire that went flat on my way to Ben’s house for Eights and Aces’ morning practice (I’ll be putting the video of that up as soon as I get the file). I’ll get the tire sometime this week (I’m guessing Wednesday) so my parents have been gracious enough to drive me back and forth to work in the meantime.
Despite all this crap happening, I think that a girl at work has a crush on me. Her name’s Jess and she’s been especially friendly to me ever since I talked to her after she handed chewing tobacco to a customer and they came through my line since they had more than 10 items. It seemed like the customer had a valid reason to purchase the chewing tobacco at an aisle besides the one that sells tobacco products. I called a manager over just in case, and it turns out that I was right; there’s only one aisle that a customer can purchase tobacco, regardless of how many items he/she is buying. So I handed it back to Jess and the customer didn’t want it so we both didn’t get canned. Hurray.
I haven’t asked her if she has a boyfriend/husband yet, so I dunno if she’s single. If she is, then I might have a chance. Maybe. Like I said, she’s been really friendly towards me and I’m pretty sure that she either doesn’t have a boyfriend/husband or is gonna break up with him soon. I’m kinda nervous since it’s been awhile since I last tried to ask someone out. In fact, the last time I was even close to having a relationship was back when I was in UU with the blazin’ Azns Paulette and Amanda.
In my previous post, I said that I’m planning on starting up another website. I’m still doing it, but I’m debating between two cameras, the Aiptek Action HD 1080p and the Sanyo Xacti CG-6. Both are affordable and are pretty good cameras for the money from what I’ve read online.
Well, I’m off to catch up on 6 days without an Internet. Catch ya laters!
Hey there my lovely bunch of crickets, it’s TheAndySan here with some bad news.
My stepdad kicked out Jon. I guess Jon’s living with one of his friends in the meantime. This might be quite the sticky situation.
You see, Jon gets child support checks and he has to live with a parent or guardian in order to get the checks until he turns 18 and then he’ll continue to receive them until he graduates or drops out of high school. Since he no longer lives with a parent or guardian, Mom is gonna be thrown in jail for child support fraud, which is a federal offense.
If this happens, then Mom’ll be in jail and unable to help my stepdad with the house expenses. Since he can’t handle it all by himself, he’ll be forced to sell the house, thus kicking me out.
Oh, but it gets better! I got the news back about my truck, and the camshaft is physically broken. The guy’s been fixing cars for decades and has never seen something like this before. It would cost me over $1,000 to repair it, so I’m gonna sell it to them for what it’s worth in parts and whatnot.
So let’s recap, shall we? I’m gonna be kicked out of the house because my fucking brother wouldn’t shut the fuck up and lay low. I have no money. I have no transportation besides my bike. I will have to quit Wal-Mart because I can’t go back and forth to work on a bike at nighttime. And this whole thing was completely not my fault. I wasn’t involved at all.
Of course, there are ways to fix this problem, but no one wants to listen to me. What the fuck do I know?! I’m just a bum who can’t afford to live on his own!!
I’m trying out a new look for the website. Leave me a comment to tell me what you think of it and if I should keep it or go back to the old look. Personally, I liked the old look. However, some of you don’t like reading white text on a black background so I decided to try something different.
