Non-Working Class Hero: Is It Something To Be?

Hey guys, it’s TheAndySan here.

When I was working at Wal-Mart the other day, I had to restrain myself from walking out. I have had enough of working for someone else, much less working for Wal-Mart. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with Wal-Mart; I feel that I’m at a stage in life where I need to really make something of myself. I also don’t want to end up like my parents who work and work and work just to keep everything afloat. Whenever I go behind the register, my inner integrity’s screaming, “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE?!! YOU NEED TO BE YOUR OWN MAN AND WORK FOR YOURSELF!!!” I totally agree with my integrity.

That’s one of the reasons I started TheAndySan.com; I need to generate income by working for myself instead of selling out my time to be someone else’s slave. Starting a blog is one of the smallest investments anyone can make. It costs me a little over $100 a year for TheAndySan.com (space and domain) and hell, I’ve used free blogs since 2004 starting with GeoShitties. The only thing more cost-effective than free is if the blog pays you to blog. Oh wait, it does! The only limit to what you can make on a blog is what you put on yourself, and even then you could still make more by using content-generators like forums.

While working at Wal-Mart, I calculated how much I’d need to make in order to cover my expenses. My expenses in a business month (30 days) add up to $410. That’s $102.50 a week, $14.55 a day, or $0.60 an hour. Roughly guesstimating from my AdSense clicks, that’s about 3-4 clicks an hour on average. In other words, I could have ALL of my monthly expenses paid for by my visitors clicking 3-4 ads an hour on any of my sites. That’s nuckin’ futz!

After the whole Kontera & AdSense fiasco, I took it upon myself to completely reevaluate how I blog. I found out that a lot of people don’t like it when you change topics in a blog. Hell, I change topics in every post! I told myself, “This is how I write. I’ll listen to what other people are telling me, but I’m not gonna bend to their will. If I did, then this blog would be no better than Wal-Mart or any other job for that matter.”

Then, I decided to make another blog, this one being better on topic than TheAndySan.com. My idea for SpicyMelon.com is for it to be a free online cookbook of offbeat, cost-effective, and/or simple recipes that users can submit as well as ones that I submit. I plan on incorporating a forum into it in the future so keep an eye out for that. If I get enough recipes, I might make it a book and sell the book with all the available free recipes as well as a lot of recipes exclusive to the book.

You might have noticed that I switched out the Chikita ads with different ads. I’m using ads from AdBrite, but I’m still using Chikita’s Linx. You can sign up for AdBrite by clicking on the AdBrite button in the sidebar.

Last night, Eriopolis and I hung out with Cody at his apartment. We played some Magic: The Gathering, ordered another killer pepperoni and Jalapeno pepper pizza from Domino’s, and we watched all of an anime called Kiddy Grade. I didn’t sleep at Cody’s and got home around 8 in the morning and tried to sleep, but those damn debt collectors kept calling and waking me up!! NYAHH!!!1

In other news, I’ve decided not to get the Yamaha CG-170SA with a hardshell case for $360 at the music store. I looked up on Musician’s Friend to see if I could do better, and I can. Check this baby out: Luna Muse Series Folk Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar. Luna Guitars is owned by Dean Guitars so I already know that this guitar’s gonna be excellent. Here’s a link of the guitar with moAr pics on the Luna Guitars website: Luna Muse Series Folk Cutaway Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar.

I’m also once again in the market for a new amp. This time, I’m debating between the Line 6 Spider III 2×12 combo and the Line 6 Spider Valve 2×12 combo. I’m gonna save up around $300 and try to find a deal on eBay and if I can’t, then I’ll save up moAr and get something from either eBay or Musician’s Friend.

Well, I’m gonna take a shower before I get ready for work (grr, work). Take care!

TheAndySan's Anime Review #2 – Bamboo Blade

Hey guys, it’s TheAndySan hurr with a long-awaited anime review!!

My review is not on Bleach or The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but on an excellent little number called Bamboo Blade! Here is the slog of it on YouTube:

If you don’t have sufficient Internets or don’t want to hear my gay-ass voice, read on below:

Have you ever wished you could be in a Japanese high school? Yeah, you and me both, although the homework would kill me!! How about in a Japanese high school kendo club? Not sure? Well, it’s time to spin Bamboo Blade in your DVD player!

Bamboo Blade begins as the story of Muroe High School’s kendo club, instructed by Toraji Ishida, a hopelessly poor and unlucky fellow with a short-temper to boot, and his only member and captain of the kendo club, Kirino Chiba, a girl who’s energetic and always positive. When Ishida-sensai is challenged by his sempai who runs two kendo clubs at two different schools, Kenzaburō Ishibashi, he becomes determined to gather a 5-woman kendo team to defeat Ishibashi-sensai and win free Tokyo-style sushi for a year.

Muroe High School’s kendo club consists of:
Toraji Ishida – the down-on-his-luck instructor
The 5-women team
The 2-man team

The 5-woman team consists of:
Tamaki “Tama-chan” Kawazoe – the shy child prodigy
Kirino Chiba – the insanely positive captain
Miyako “Miya-Miya” Miyazaki – the cute girl with a dark side
Sayako “Sayo-chan” Kuwahara – the eccentric random girl
Satori “Satorin” Azuma – the talented but clumsy girl

The 2-man team is:
Yūji Nakata – a sincere and talented guy who looks out for Tama-chan
Danjūrō “Dan” Eiga – a small and slow guy who is Miya-Miya’s boyfriend

Story: 8/10
Although Bamboo Blade uses the ol’ Japanese high school premise, it’s much more than that. The story really captures what it’s like to be in a kendo club, alibiet with some out-of-the-norm occurances. It’s told with loving care and doesn’t go for excessive amounts of fanservice, not that there isn’t fanservice; it’s subtly tucked in without having it in the spotlight. I give it an 8/10 for an excellent take on a cookie-cutter subgenre.

Animation & Music: both 7/10
The animation quality definitely gets the job done, and it especially shines during the critical action scenes. The music is pretty catchy too. I’m totally diggin’ the ending theme’s dance-funk feel. I give both the animation and the music a 7/10 for a good, but not mind-blowing, job.

Characters: 10/10
This is where Bamboo Blade shines its brightest. The character development is top-notch and makes this anime definitely re-watchable. 10/10, no question.

Enjoyment: 10/10
I haven’t thuroughly enjoyed an anime from beginning to end like this since Love Hina! And the ending makes you beg for more when a second season is hinted at. 10/10 for pure enjoyment.

Overall: 8.4/10
Bamboo Blade is a breath of fresh air among the cookie-cutter high-school subgenre of anime. The characters develop nicely, the animation and music is satisfactory, and I would watch this again in a heartbeat.

Well, I’m gonna go chizzill with E & The Gang so I’ll see yooz guyz laterz! Bye!

Das Team! Das Team!! Das Team!!!1 Ahoo! Ahoo!! Ahoo!!!1

Hey guys, it’s TheAndySan hurr to tell you about my day.

I went on my daily bike ride a bit earlier than usual (around 10 in the morning) so the music store wasn’t open. It’s cool though since I needed to stop by the bank to withdraw money, so I still had an objective. After all that, Eriopolis and Ben picked me up to go to the Magic: The Gathering tournament.

The main prize of the tournament was a Bazaar of Baghdad that would be given out lottery-style at the end of 5 matches. If you won a match (2 out of 3 games of MTG), then you received 2 entries. If you lost a match, then you only get 1 entry. Although winning increases your chances of getting picked, you could lose all 5 matches and still have a chance of winning the Bazaar of Baghdad. There also were booster pack prizes for the Top 4 players: 10 for 1st place, 5 for 2nd place, and 2 for 3rd & 4th places.

Eriopolis told Ben and I that when groups of players go to tournaments, they usually have a team name. We picked “Das Team”, which is literally “The Team” in German. Whenever a member of our team won, we did the Das Team chant: “Das Team! Das Team!! Das Team!!!1 Ahoo! Ahoo!! Ahoo!!!1” Each member says “Das Team!” and for every member in Das Team that’s present, we then all shout “Ahoo!”

So you’re probably itchin’ to find out how we did, amirite? All of the members of Das Team scored 2 wins & 3 losses. That’s crazy-nuts! Oh, and none of us won any booster packs or the Bazaar of Baghdad. The Bazaar of Baghdad went to Andy…Kill. When they announced the winner, my heart stopped for a beat ‘cuz they said Andy, but it was the other Andy and not me. Sonnuva!! Oh well, Das Team will get ’em next time!! Das Team! Das Team!! Das Team!!!1 Ahoo! Ahoo!! Ahoo!!!1

At work today, I was talking with Cody (who also works at Wal-Mart) about him starting his own website. He doesn’t quite know what he wants to begin with yet, but he’s pretty sure that it’ll be about his view on various hot-button topics like religion and politics. I’ll definitely be helping him set things up when he’s ready so stay tuned for that. Obviously, when his site’s up and running, I’ll put a link to it up here.

Well, I do believe that’ll do it for me tonight. Before I go, I got an email from a guy at OCReMix.org about this really good Mega Man X3 reMix. He linked me up and I downloaded it. It’s definitely a keeper. You too can enjoy Dain ‘Beatdrop’ Olsen’s latest audiogasm (that’s audio orgasm, n00bz) at http://djpretzel.web.aplus.net/songs/Mega_Man_X3_Revolutions_OC_ReMix.mp3.

I’m gonna take a shower and watch me some moAr Bamboo Blade. Later!

The Niche Itch

Hey guys, long time no blog. It’s TheAndySan, the one and only, hurr again…with pants!

Okay first up, I’ve been stupid-busy as of late so if my blogs were a bit inconsistent both topically and chronologically, I apologize. This is the jist of my days lately: Wake up, eat something, call or get called by Eriopolis or Ben, hang out with them and then work or visa versa, come home at a ridiculously late hour, and sleep/pass out on the couch.

Despite all of this going on, I have managed to make some rather big changes to this blog. You might have noticed that I removed the group of share buttons in favor of the Share This! expanding button. This also made the Technorati button in the sidebar obsolete, so I scrapped that as well. Since my AdSense has been super-nuked, I’ve put up Chikita ads in the meantime until I get my Yahoo Publisher Network account approved. More to come on that so stay tuned!

So, why is this post called The Niche Itch? Because it’s a bitchin’ rhyme? Well, yes and no. I’ve been doing a lot of reading from the bloggers that pull in a shit-ton of money. We’re talking hundreds of dollars daily, if not thousands. They all pretty much say the same thing: “Find a niche and don’t jump off-topic too often.” In other words, “Be specific! B-E specific!” There is a large amount of evidence to prove that if you settle on a main topic and talk about nothing but it, then you’re gonna get tons of viewers followed by tons of money. Who am I to buck the trend? I am officially announcing the main topic of this blog: my life. With my life as my main topic, I am now free to talk about whatever I want since EVERYTHING has some sort of relation to my life. Whether it’s an interesting article that I read in the newspaper or what I did with my friends the other day, everything has some sort of relation to my life. The only things I can’t talk about in this blog are things that I am not aware of. As I become more aware of things, I can incorporate more topics as well as shuffle out the topics that I’m bored with. This is how I can talk about Magic: The Gathering, playing guitar, working at Wal-Mart, and my life goals ALL IN THE SAME POST! All of these topics relate to my life because they play a part in my life, however big or small in importance.

In other news, my lesson with Rich today was really awesome! I learned that I only really need to learn any scale in one key since they can all be transposed by however many half-steps the initial key is to the new key. For example, if I wanted to change from G to A, I would move wherever I am up two frets since A is only a whole-step up from G. I never realized that until today. In essence, I have learned to play lead in any key possible. I also learned that the minor pentatonic and the major pentatonic are very closely related. For example, the 1st position minor pattern is exactly the same as the 5th position major pattern, just starting somewhere different. It was such a revelation for me!

Also in other news, I’ve added new st00f to the Eights and Aces MySpace page. It’s not a lot, but it’s something. You can take a gander at www.myspace.com/eightsandaces. I jammed with Ben today and he said that I’ve improved so much as a player. I taught him how to play Still Got The Blues by Gary Moore last night and he played it for me, but it was a bit off. Not by much, but he’s got the first part pretty down so it’s all good.

Fairly recently, Cody, my friend and the bassist for Eights and Aces, moved out of his parents’ house and into an apartment with his girlfriend Danielle. It’s a pretty sw33t pad, especially for his first apartment. We played a lot of Magic: The Gathering there. It’s also a million times cooler, in relation to temperature, than Eriopolis’ room since Cody’s apartment has excellent circulation and Eriopolis’ room has ziltch.

Well, I’m gonna go to bed so I’ll see you guys on the flip-side! Laterz!!

TheAndySan

P.S: It’s been 28 days since www.theandysan.com has been up. As I’ve said before, I took away the social bookmarking site buttons and replaced them with Share This! because it’s easier and much moAr aesthetically pleasing. If any of you guys use Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, etc., you can submit my stuff to them that way.

Great White Was FUCKING ON!!!!!!!1

OMG, it’s TheAndySan back from the Great White cancer benefit concert.

The first band up was teays vein. I’ve never heard of them, but they were pretty darn good. The drummer was better than all of them combined and totally outshined them. The vocalist was excellent. The bass player was-a rockin’. The guitarist was…meh. He had 2 bitchin’ Paul Reed Smiths, but he was really low-key. After they were done, we all met them, Jon bought their CD, we all got temporary tattoos of their logo, and chatted for a bit.

After what seemed like forever, Great White got on the stage and they were FUCKIN’ ON!!!1 I mean from start to finish, FLAWLESS!! Backing up a bit, before the doors even opened, we hung out with this very nice couple from Cincinnati. They hooked us up the fat. At the end of the show, we got autographed guitar picks, autographed drumsticks, used guitar picks, and the setlist. Fuckin’ A!!! Oh yeah, and I got the last pick of the night. That’s right, be jealous.

OMG, I’m so fuckin’ psyched man!!!1 Well, I’m gonna get off and eat something before I go to bed. Thank-you and good-night!

TheAndySan

P.S: It’s been 1,516 days since I had a website. Also, I’ve finally finalized my AdSense so I can receive payments now. Sv33t! As of tonight, I’m up to almost $90. That’s in-freaking-sane!!!1 Thanks to everyone who made that possible!!!

Whatcha Gonna Do When Eriopolis Runs Wild On j00?!!!1

Mornin’, it’s TheAndySan hurr with some awesome news.

Eriopolis has qualified for regionals in Magic: The Gathering. Right now, my boy E-Dub is in Columbus taking on the best in Ohio. I’m so fucking proud of him, even if he comes home with a big goose egg for victories!! We’re all rooting for you E!!!1

Lately, I’ve been hooked on When The Sun Sleeps by Underoath. I don’t like the screaming at all, but the actual singing parts are totally worth enduring the screams. Give it a whirl on the ol’ dusty CD player!

In other news, I’m gonna be seeing Great White tonight at their cancer benefit concert. I’m totally stoked for this, guys!!

Also in other news, I’ve created Eights and Aces MySpace page. I’ll be in charge of it so when they start doing live shows, I’ll put up videos as well as songs. Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/eightsandaces!!

I seriously can’t wait until I get my external hard drive up and running again. Those data recovery services are f’n expensive though. However, considering how much money I’m pulling in with this site, it might not be too much longer til it’s fixed. Data Recovery: I Needs It.

Well, I’m gonna watch some To Love-Ru so I’ll post after the Great White concert. Later days!

Today's Episode: "Where's The Wal-Mart Spirit? Not At Wal-Mart!" Or "A Creative Promotional Experiment"

Good evening everybody, it’s TheAndySan hurr to discuss an ever-growing issue at Wal-Mart.

Today, I was talking to a cashier while I was doing pay station AGAIN, and a customer just started using the self-checkout. One of the managers yelled something at me and then I heard “yeah, that’s right!” in a real snotty way similar to how you’d say “yeah, you better run!” Grrrrrr… That pissed me off right there!! After that, I didn’t feel like working anymore and was half-tempted to just walk out. Now, don’t get me wrong, there was a customer checking out, but I did have a close eye on him and if another customer was checking out and/or the girl I was talking to got a customer, I would have gone back to pay station with no problem.

Anyway, after that settled down, I asked the girl I was talking to before. “Where’s the Wal-Mart spirit? It seems that everyone is their own island, but yet there are little cliques still around.” It felt kinda similar to high school, but different.

The way I see things, as long as you’re doing your job in a satisfactory manner, you can pretty much do whatever the hell you feel like doing, provided you abide by the rules and regulations of your workplace. For example, if you work at a restaurant, you probably shouldn’t eat a burger while you’re on the job. It’s been done a lot from what I’ve seen what I worked at restaurants, and even I’ve been guilty of some food sniping. According to my morals and beliefs, I don’t feel one bit guilty reading a magazine if I have nothing to do and no customers around. I love to read! It helps me keep up-to-date on whatever it is I’m reading about AND it presents new ideas and topics. Now if a customer needed help or something while I’m working at pay station, of course I should put down the magazine and help the customer out. That’s obvious! But I believe that you should be doing something to occupy your mind when you have nothing to do.

In conclusion, as a cashier, I feel that I’m very distant from my co-workers and I don’t feel that teamwork spirit that I did when I worked at a restaurant. Despite all my hang-ups with McDonald’s, when the rush was on and we had our best crew in the back, no other fast-food restaurant was faster. 8 double-cheeseburgers? Done! 4 double-quarter pounder meals? Here ya go! 50 chicken nuggets? Fuggeduboudit!!

Ok, is time for topic end, no more will I speak. I want you all to experience big-bang! Lol, Elektronik Supersonik reference!!

I’ve been thinking of various ways to promote my site and I’ve come up with a good idea. I will write the URL of my site on all of the paper money that I have. When I spend my money, it’ll be like giving someone my business card…kinda. I will number each of the bills and if any of you guys run across one, leave me a comment with the number of the bill so I can see who received it. I will begin Operation: AndyCash tomorrow.

Well, I’m gonna hit the sack so I’ll see you lil’ cupcakes later! Nighty-night!

It's A New Look…You Like?

Ohayo, it’s TheAndySan here with some really obvious news.

As you can tell, unless you’re blind (sorry to my blind viewers), I’ve redone the look of theandysan.com. It’s a little Web 1.0 I know, but I’ve always strived to keep things simple so it works in that sense.

I’ve also asked a couple of my friends, Eriopolis, Ben, and Cody, what they thought of my site. Eriopolis wanted me to switch things around in the navigation bar, so I did. Both Ben & Cody thought that my site was too plain so I took out the boring grays and went all-black with blue links, red titles, and white text. Hurray for patriotism! And for listening to my friends and loyal viewers! Double-win!! What do you guys think of the redesign? Leave me a comment below!

Yesterday, I took my external hard drive to my friend Dusty to see if he could fix it. It turns out that the needle inside the hard drive wasn’t reading everything. What he’s gonna do is send away for a new needle, install it (he’s 95% sure it’ll work again with all my data intact), and I’ll pay him $25 if it doesn’t work or $75 if it does. I think it sounds pretty reasonable since I could get a new 160 GB external hard drive for about $100 AND I get all my data back!! Seriously, you can’t put a price on that!

If anyone out there has computer problems, I highly recommend going through Dusty since he does things at reasonable prices, he’s flexible with payment options, and you’ll be supporting a small business too! If you would like to contact him, you can reach Dusty at dgunderson1985@yahoo.com.

In other news, because it took Dusty a bit longer than expected to find out what was wrong with my hard drive, I went to my guitar lesson with Rich without my guitar and book. It was cool though since we just borrowed a guitar and book for the lesson. I didn’t have time to warm up so I was a bit sloppy. Fortunately, the guitar I was using, an Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special, had a very similar feel to my Silvertone Apocalypse as far as the neck goes. The action was lower, and that helped too. I learned how to play Hells Bells yesterday so it was all good despite my unpreparedness.

I also hung out with Eriopolis, Ben, and Cody last night after my guitar lesson. We played Magic: The Gathering pretty much the whole time. E totally souped-up my blue deck. Although I wanted a blue/black deck, Eriopolis hooked me up the fat with a blue/black deck that only has blue mana. The spells that have black in them are blue-or-black spells so I don’t need black mana to play them. N33t, huh?

Well, I’m gonna take a shower and get something to eat so I’ll see you guys later. TheAndySan loves you! Good-Bye! Lol, Ken Tanaka reference!
